Drop-In Spring Break Camp

Looking for a fun and flexible way to stay active over spring break? Drop in to WT for a customizable camp experience!

Young people can attend for one, two, or three days of camp and partake in imaginative activities related to theatre performance, design, devising, and more.

 

Camp runs Mon, March 30 to Wed, April 1 from 9am-3pm at Writers Theatre in Glencoe. Open to campers in 2nd - 5th grade of all experience levels and ability, in 2nd – 5th grade. Registration is $90/day.

Camp Schedule

Monday (3/30) — Actor's Workshop: Monologue Magic and Group Storytelling

Campers will learn what a monologue is, how to perform them for an audition, and how to write their very own original stories and bring them to life.

Tuesday (3/31) — Sketch and Sketch! Characters, Comedy and Costumes

Characters will come to life through games and theatre practices including sketch comedy, improvisation, and costume design.

Wednesday (4/1) — Physical Theatre: Stage Combat and Clowning

Campers will stay on the move as they explore the beginnings of Red Nose clowning and the fundamentals of stage combat through the lens of storytelling and safety.

Kristin Hammargren

Director of Arts Engagement & Education

Kristin Hammargren is the Director of Arts Engagement & Education at Writers Theatre. Her work includes programming around mainstage productions, community partnerships, onsite education, theatre for young audience programs and the Show & Tell storytelling series. Kristin originally joined the company as a teaching artist in 2017. Outside of WT, she has worked as an educator with Filament Theatre, Victory Gardens, AdventureStage, the "Cherubs" program at Northwestern, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Montana Shakespeare in the Schools. For five years she served as the director of Yellowstone TheatreMakers in Bozeman, MT. As a performer, Kristin's credits include work with Steep Theatre, BoHo Theatre, Filament Theatre, Midsomer Flight, Opera Montana, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, Forward Theater, and Door Shakespeare.

Education Manager

Becca is an educator, theatre artist, dramaturg, and stage manager who facilitates arts programming and productions that celebrate community, embrace culture, and foster creativity for people of all ages. Their work at WT includes school-based education programs including Novel Series in-school residencies, Student Matinees, and ACTIVATE workshops as well as onsite education and supporting theatre for young audience programming. Outside of WT, her teaching artistry and educational leadership includes work with Raven Theatre Company, Childsplay Theatre Company, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, and Emerald City Theatre among others. Becca is a proud Ensemble Member at Strawdog Theatre Company, Certified Yoga Instructor, and Creative Facilitator with Jewish Studio Project. www.beccaglevy.com

Alondra Rios

Engagement and Education Associate

Alondra Rios is an educator, theatre artist and writer who joined Writer’s Theatre as the Education and Engagement Associate in 2025. She has served as a teaching artist for Writer’s Theatre, Chicago Children’s Theatre, the Patel Conservatory, and the Cherubs program at Northwestern University. Aside from arts education, she works as a freelance theatre artist, serving as director, performer, and writer for many projects in the Chicagoland area. She is a proud graduate from Northwestern University with a BA in Theatre and certificates in Musical Theatre and Playwriting. Alondra is also a proud corgi mama! 

Myles Mathews

Education Apprentice

Myles Mathews (he/him) is an actor/educator who recently graduated from the University of Michigan with a BFA in Acting and a minor in Social Work. During his time there, he was deeply involved with the Prison Creative Arts Project (PCAP), leading theatre workshops inside correctional facilities and launching the Department of Theatre & Drama’s prison tour initiative, which brought performances to incarcerated audiences across Michigan!
