Frankenstein: A Ghost Story

A Staged Reading of a New Play

  • Written by Kyle Hatley
  • with Dana Saleh Omar and Joanie Schultz
  • Adapted from the novel by Mary Shelley
  • Directed by Bobby Kennedy

Running time: 80 minutes with no intermission

In this new play with music, a lone storyteller steps up to the microphone, eager to share the story of Victor Frankenstein and his creature. With deep passion and energetic creativity, the narrator strives to reanimate Mary Shelley’s gothic classic—if only he can keep his own demons at bay. Will he maintain control of the spirited tale he’s conjuring—and is he really as alone up there as he thinks?

Synopsis

"Good evening, everyone! I am your storyteller. A few things you should know before we get started: One, there was no Igor. Two, Victor never said, 'It’s alive!' Three, the Mel Brooks film is the best adaptation to date, despite the last two things I just said. Lastly, we tell stories because they teach us that we are not alone in our fear – or in our misery – or in our joy. And, yeah, this story is fictional. But it comes from a place of real pain, real loneliness, real confusion over what it means to be alive. Okay. Let’s get started."
