FROM THE BIG SCREEN TO BROADWAY: A LOOK AT MUSICAL ADAPTATIONS OF MOVIES
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH AT 12PM
THE GILLIAN THEATRE at WT
FREE EVENT - RSVP REQUIRED
We’ve all got our favorite movie versions of musicals but what about the other way around? Musical adaptations of movies have been made as long as movies themselves. From Singin’ in the Rain to The Lion King to Once (now playing at WT!), musicals based on films have shaped the genre of musical theatre in important ways. In this free event, Artistic Producer Katie Galetti will explore seminal moments in movie-to-musical history and the process of artistic interpretation with side-by-side looks at scenes from both forms.
Bring the whole family for an afternoon of fun at Writers Theatre on Saturday, March 4th! While grownups catch the 3pm matinee of Once, young people can participate in a special theatre workshop taught by WT Education’s professional teaching artists. Inspired by the hit musical, participants will create their own instruments and explore sound design.
Workshop activities are designed to be active, fun, flexible, and adaptable to multiple ages and abilities. All are welcome. Please let us know how we can make the experience successful and rewarding for your young person. For questions or if you are in need of financial assistance contact Community Engagement Manager Kristin Hammargren at khammargren@writerstheatre.org.
Young people from ages 5-12 are welcome. We ask that they are able to use the bathroom by themselves. The workshop will take place in the theatre building. Please plan to drop off your participant between 2:40pm and 2:50pm and pick them up no later than 10 minutes after curtain. Spaces are limited and registration is required so sign up early!
A plane ride, a park bench, a lost wallet, a broken vacuum cleaner…sometimes the unlikeliest meetings in the most random of circumstances can change the course of our lives. Inspired by the unexpected rendezvous of Guy and Girl in WT’s production of Once, join some of Chicagoland’s best storytellers and members of the New Trier Poetry and Creative Writing Club as they share personal tales of the chance encounters that shaped their lives.
Presented in partnership with Glencoe Youth Services.
In the Tony-award-winning musical Once, the performers double as actors and musicians. Join production Music Director Matt Deitchman for a glimpse into the rehearsal process for Writers Theatre’s new production. You won’t want to miss this free event featuring live music and a Q & A with actors from the show!
