We asked the actors of Port Authority to discuss how their characters’ experiences in the play resonate with their own lives. Here’s what Actor John Hoogenakker shared with us…

John Hoogenakker Headshot Large“I find that I identify with Dermot quite a bit. I have certainly had the comforting feeling at the end of many a tough day of being reminded just how very lucky I am to have the family that I have. I have also struggled with a very similar breed of pessimism to that with which Dermot is confronted throughout his narrative; “My acting career is too good to be true, and it’s only a matter of time before it’s all over and I’m exposed as the moronic fraud with thinning hair that I’ve been since I was 15 and first realized that my hair might conceivably begin to thin unless I checked my hairline religiously,” is just one personal example that leaps to mind. But using alcohol as a crutch to help me through awkward social situations? Under no circumstances have I EVER done THAT. Ever.”
