Play Submissions

Thank you for your interest in submitting new work to Writers' Theatre.  Writers' Theatre commissions, develops and produces new work.  We accept full manuscripts submitted by literary agents and theatre professionals with whom we have a prior relationship.  Unsolicited scripts will either be recycled or returned if they include a self-addressed and stamped envelope.

Chicagoland-based writers without representation can submit a short bio along with a synopsis, character breakdown and ten pages of sample dialogue from both new and previously produced plays.  We ask that writers please also describe how their submission fits the mission of Writers' Theatre in their e-mail or cover letter.  If the material interests us, we will contact you to request the full script within six months.

We produce language-driven plays in intimate environments.  More specifically, we value scripts in which the human experience is elevated through poetry, circumstance or theatricality.  We are drawn to plays that feature a sophisticated use of language, rich characterization and also reveal new perspectives on the human heart.  Our primary focus is the Word and the Artist.

Writers are encouraged to submit electronically to literary@writerstheatre.org

Submissions can also be mailed to:
