Writers’ Theatre is accepting applications for the position of EDUCATION OUTREACH COORDINATOR. Ideal applicant has a background in arts education, teaching artist work and experience in a performing arts institution. The Education Outreach Coordinator reports to the Director of Education and supports in all areas of the Education Department.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates The MLK Project: The Fight for Civil Rights touring show:
- Reaches out to schools and organizations to book performances
- Maintains tour according to Equity guidelines
- Meets education and budget goals
- Accompanies tour to schools every day in January-February; serves as tour liaison and facilitates all post-show discussions
- Assists in administering programs on and off-site (school site visits, assisting in PD days and trainings at schools, coordinating student matinees at the Theatre).
- Serves as a Teaching Artist for in-school residencies as needed.
- Facilitates post-show discussions for the Theatre’s season and supports in implementing From Page to Stage and other adult audience enrichment events.
- Helps foster community partnerships between the Theatre and the wider community and schools; serves as liaison for community outreach events on and off-site.
- Assists in administrative duties for department.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. At least one year working in arts education preferred; experience as a teaching artist a must.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Passion for live theatre and for working with youth.
- A highly-motivated, self-starter with the ability to be assertive in demanding community-based settings.
- Confident speaker with the sensitivity to lead complex, nuanced conversations with diverse audiences.
- Acute facilitation aptitude: including empathy, openness, humility.
- Highly-organized and flexible; quick thinking problem-solver, comfortable working under pressure.
- Understanding of the landscape of urban school system.
- Exemplary writing skills with attention to detail.
- Team player, collaborative spirit, sense of humor a must.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience. Excellent benefit package offered includes medical, dental and disability insurance, vacation and other paid leave, a 403(b) retirement plan, commuter transit plan, and medical and dependent care cafeteria plans.
